France elected yesterday a new president, Nicolas Sarkozy, the son of an exiled Hungarian aristocrat and grandson of a Greek Jew. He is certainly an interesting man:

Source: French astrological association CEDRA [Centre d'Etudes, de Documentation et de Recherches sur l'Astrologie], based on birth records, therefore Rodden Rating AA, information provided by Daisy Van de Vin.First impression on his natal chart is that it reminds of Fidel Castro's chart: there is a 10th house Jupiter-Uranus conjunction in trine with Saturn, which stands for his proposal of a new economic model for France, a more liberalised economy. However, an important difference from Fidel Castro's chart is that this powerful Jupiter-Uranus conjunction is afflicted by a square from Neptune, which possibly blurs the political vision or could involve him into scandals and doubtful affairs.
Combative, dynamic and energetic, even hyperactive, as shown by the natal Moon-Mars conjunction in Aries in sextile with the Sun, Sarkozy is expected to awake France from its long national slumber.
Also noteworthy is to remark the fixed signs T-square based on the Mercury-Pluto opposition in square with the Saturn-Lilith conjunction, which converts in his reputation as a workaholic, a pragmatic person, unabashedly ambitious and a tough-talking defender of order and law. He is a promoter of pro-painful economic reforms such as a longer working week and fewer government employees. Well known as sharp-tongued, his famous remark to the rampaging minority youths as "rabble" (racaille), during the October 2005 suburban riots, contributed to attracting some of the extreme right leader Le Pen's votes.
The Mercury-Pluto opposition is also present in the chart of the USA, where it is responsible for the power of the mainstream American media, which has been extensively used for mass manipulation of minds. A good recent book detailing this situation is "Sick-soul nation. An astrologer's view of America" by Jessica Murray. If in the US natal chart, this opposition is mediated by sextile/trine by a Neptune-Lilith conjunction, in Sarkozy's chart the Mercury-Pluto opposition is squared by a Saturn-Lilith conjunction, which suggests that the newly elected president of France will forcely manifest toward media/public control. Critics have accused him of being an authoritarian demagogue, ready to trade away civil liberties for political gains.
Knowing Sarkozy's intellectual affinity for America (natal Mercury conjunct with the US Moon and trine with the US Mars), we can therefore only expect him to support ideologically the so-called war on terrorism [which in fact is state promoted terrorism itself]. However, the Moon and Mars in Aries in Sarkozy's chart come in conflict [square] with the US Cancer stellium, so we can expect him to support a rising influence of France in the world, even against the US interest, without remorse, when necessary.
