Humiliation is good for the soul 🤷‍♀️

‘I have prayed for years for one good humiliation a day, and then, I must watch my reaction to it. I have no other way of spotting both my denied shadow self and my idealized persona.’

Two roads diverged in the woods and I,
Took the one less traveled by,
And that made all the difference.

Today I am going to share a story that I came across on the internet that I find fascinating.

I came across the story a few weeks ago, and was so fascinated by it, I looked up more and more details about it, and couldn’t wait to share it.

But then I lost interest. But I think it is good I have waited before I share this story, because I am not interested in the details, but just about one particular part of this story.

The part of the story I want to share, hasn’t been thought of as significant by the internet, yet, anyone with a spiritual mind-set, would be able to see the significance of it. I can certainly see the significance of it, and so I will share my interpretation of the story here.

First though, I will outline the basics of the story, to bring you up to speed with it, then I will quickly move on to describe the part I want to highlight —

The Nairobi DusitD2 Complex attack in 2019

In January 2019, 5 Islamic Al-Shabaab terrorists from Somalia, attacked the DusitD2 Complex in Nairobi, which is an up-scale complex consisting of many businesses, including a shopping mall.

This particular terrorist attack, gained particular world-wide attention because a lone SAS soldier, who goes by his alias of Christian Craighead, was photographed by the media, engaging in the fight.

Christian Craighead was an off-duty SAS soldier that day, who was stationed in Nairobi to help train soldiers’ there. He received a call from one of his friend’s, who worked as a body guard at the shopping mall, asking for his assistance because they were under attack.

At the time he received the call, he had just gotten out of the shower, after having had a leisurely morning of getting a haircut and having some lunch, words heading home for a shower.

The photographs taken by the Nairobi media, went world-wide, because he was pictured with his SAS weapons, but he was wearing civilian clothing, now famously consisting of Armani designer jeans and a fashionable pink shirt, because those were his civilian clothes he grabbed as soon as he was out of the shower and received the call.

Christian Craighead has unfortunately been blocked from releasing his book, ‘One Man In,’ due to the potential security risk of revealing too many SAS secrets, that re-telling his story might involve.

He described the following fight that ensued as, ‘much more brutal than people think.’

And just to highlight how quickly he arrived at the scene, he said his initial intentions upon arrival, were just to assist in any way he could with the Police and other Special Forces he assumed would already be handling the situation.

However, upon his arrival, after hearing gunfire going off, he asked a security guard if that was the gunfire of the Special Forces, and the security guard replied, ‘no, no one has arrived yet.’ It was at that point that Christian heard a woman screaming, gun-fire going off, and the woman’s screaming stopped. It was then that he realised he was hearing people being murdered, and he sprung into action.

The synopsis from his book that was blocked from being published, ‘One Man In,’ reads in part,

For the next twenty-two hours, Chris relied on his nearly three decades of elite military training to win a deadly game of hide-and-seek with a unit of ethnic Somali terrorists who had already detonated one suicide bomb, and were intent on killing as many other people as possible. At first on his own, and later as the leader of a small, rag-tag group of soldiers and civilians, Chris moved through the complex where hundreds of innocent hotel staff, guests, and office workers were still trapped. After clearing buildings and shepherding people to safety, he located the terrorists. A battle of guns, grenades, and tactics ensued. Chris and his men made it out. The terrorists did not.’

I wanted to share the gist of the story, to being the reader up-to-date with it, and although it is a shame that ‘One Man In’ was blocked from being published, it does not matter, because the part of his story that I want to share with you, happened before the fight.

Before I tell you, I think it is important to point out, that the significance of this part of the story, has not been given its due credit. Christian certainly describes this part as a strange, eery, event, that he did not realise the significance of until after the fight. But as he has relayed it, and I have watched two seperate YouTube videos of his telling of it, the significance of it was not appreciated by those he was telling the story to, or any of the YouTube commenters who also watched the video.

First, I will describe the event in my own words, and then share a 10 minute video of Christian telling the story in his own words, and then I will describe my spiritual interpretation of it —

(Continued in a next post)

Just before I get into the story about the strange event that happened to Christian that day, in the lead up to his participation in fighting the Al-Shabaab terrorists, I want to share a little background about Christian’s childhood that he shared —

Christian Craighead self-describes himself as a ‘generally very unlucky man,’ which I believed was coloured by the trauma he experienced in his childhood —

Growing up, he shared a life marked by bullying, that even his fellow SAS members were shocked by —

The first bullying event he shared that happened in his life, he described as like, ‘boy’s just being boys,’ which consisted of him being put into a sack and the sack being tied up and set on fire. He said he was able to escape the sack because it was set on fire. His fellow SAS co-workers were shocked by this, but he did not see the boy’s who did it as being intrinsically evil.

The next bullying event he shared, happened a few years later, and he described the two boy’s as psychopathic - he happened to just pass them one day, when they decided to kidnap him, and then spent the next few hours inflicting torture on him, before eventually letting him go.

A few years later, he randomly saw one of these boy’s cycling past him on his bike. Despite being a few years later, he recognised the boy instantly, and grabbed him as he cycled past on his bike, and proceeded to kick the **** out of the bully, without explanation. The bully pleaded for mercy and asked why, but Christian continued the beating, and then let him go.

Christian describes his life as being destined for that day in Nairobi, and those events of bullying in his life, was training, to give him the state of mind to stand up to bullies, just like he did that day with the Al-Shabaab terrorists.

Christian has a self-perception of a chronically unlucky man, I believe, due to the trauma of his childhood. That is how his mind was, and probably still is, coloured like.

About five hours before he received the call from his bodyguard friend asking for his help that day, he described it as a normal day, where he did some practice shooting, got a haircut, and then went for lunch and had a cocktail, before driving home and jumping in the shower. It was just when he had gotten out of the shower, that he received the call.

On his way to run his errands, as he was driving into town, he described the drive as a typical, rugged African road, that only had some African villages within the next few miles, which are essentially just huts, with the next city being many miles away yet, and so it was very unusual to see a lone man walking in a suit, along this rugged country path, trying to hitchhike.

Against his better judgment, and his SAS training, he decides to stop the lone man dressed in a suit, and offers him a lift. He describes the man as being very smiley and friendly, making small talk, such as,

‘What is your name?’

Christian gives his name and the man gives his.

‘What year were you born?’

‘1975,’ Christian replied.

‘Me too! What Month?’

‘September.’

‘Me too! What date?’

‘The 15th,’ Christian again replies.

The man says, ‘I don’t know the date in which I was born, but what a day it was to be born in September 1975, that we were both born on that month in that year!’

The man in a suit then proceeded to take out a dagger from under his jacket. Christian said his ‘spider senses’ did not go off and feel at all threatened by the man producing the dagger from his jacket. He described the dagger as unusual because it had a two-pointed tip, and he jokingly asks the man,

‘You’re not going to kill me with that dagger, are you?’

‘No, no,’ the man chuckled, ‘this dagger comes in very handy if I happen to come across any demon’s or monsters while I am travelling on this path.’ The man chuckles and places the dagger back under his jacket.

Due to the man being dressed in a suit, Christian asked him if he was heading to the city. The man replied no, and instead asked Christian to drop him off just outside of the next village he reaches.

Christian then drops the man off, and it is at this point that he describes something strange happening. Christian said, that as soon as the man’s foot hit the ground, his face changed. He went from being a very smiley and friendly chap, to suddenly the expression on his face being very intense and angry, and he said to Christian,

‘May God give you many blessings on this day,’

And just like that, the man’s face returns to his smiley persona, and he walks off, and Christian continues on his drive.

From that moment on, when Christian was running his morning errands, he describes his day as running very smoothly, and running exactly like clockwork.

(Story continues in the next post)

It is my belief, that Christian is not chronically or intrinsically an unlucky man, that is simply not logical. Rather, it is a perception of how Christian perceives himself to be, no doubt coloured by the fact of the trauma he experienced from his childhood.

It is my belief, that the man in a suit that Christian met that day, was a spritual messenger of some sort, who placed Christian into a state of Satori.

Satori is essentially just a state of being, where the person is free from the burden’s of their ego, or tsunami, and whilst in this state, the person is able to perceive reality as it actually is - a lot more pleasant and clear, without the ego burdening it with unnecessary thought’s.

Christian himself describes his mindset and fighting ability that day, as being like an ,‘extreme version of a flow state,’

A flow state is an athletic term to describe a person in a complete state of concentration and able to perform at their optimum ability.

Christian describes his ability to perceive that day as an extreme version of a flow state.

It is my belief, that the man in the suit, put Christian into Satori, so as to give him the upper hand against these Islamic terrorists.

When Christian was telling the story, and he described the dagger as being very unusual as it had a double-pointe tip, I looked up the sword, and it has associations with Islam and is called a ‘Zulfiqar,’ —

The story going with the sword
The zulfiqar was one of the 7 (or 9) swords of the Prophet. He came into its possession either by taking it from a conquered enemy at the battle of Badr (624 AD) or by receiving it from the archangel Gabriel. Prophet Mohammad gave the sword to Ali in some other battle (like the battle of Uhud 625). Ali used it so effectively that (later) a well-known saying came up: "There is no hero and man like Ali; There is no sword like zulfiqar". This is often found as a kind of talismanic inscription, e.g. on sword blades.’

Christian was a highly experienced SAS man, and he still found the sword unusual, and didn’t know the name of it. I only know the name of it and it’s associations with Islam by googling about it when I heard his story.

I find it fascinating that Christian was about to enter into battle with Islamic extremists, and a man in a suit, appeared with this dagger, and wished for God to give him, ‘many blessings on this day.’

Christian Craighead is not his real name, it is an alias to protect his real identity, despite his image being plastered all over the internet, thanks to the Nairobi media photographing him as he entered and exited the complex throughout the day. He picked the name ‘Christian’ because he has always been a devout Christian, and the surname Craighead, because that is the surname of a girlfriend he met in the USA.

But the point about the two religions is, that both Christianity and Islam, were protecting him that day.

But, more than that, his meeting of the man in the suit, who I believe put him into a state of Satori, so as to lend him the upper hand, is proof of the existence of a spiritual afterlife, that serves to guide us, protect us and lead us along our own path in life.

Below, is a 10 months clip, of Christian describing in his own words, meeting the man on the suit.

What I also find fascinating, is that, out of the two full video interviews I have watched, none of the interviewer’s focus on this peculiar incident, and instead prefer to poke Christian for details about the actual battle, which he has legally been blocked from discussing.

Not even why do the YouTube comments left on any of the videos, mention this unusual meeting. Like the interviewer’s, they probably just interpret it as a strange or peculiar anecdote, in the lead up to the actual story of the battle.

Christian himself states, in the 10 minute clip I will post below, that he did not realise the significance of the meeting of this unusual man, until 22 hours later, when the battle had finished, and he had time to reflect back on it.

The reason I interpret his story, as a spritual man who put him into a state of Satori, is because I have experienced this state myself once before, although it did not lead on to a raging gun battle with Al-Shabaab terrorists (thankfully), but was more related to my individual journey towards self-healing and self-knowledge.

Anyway, here is the 10 minute clip of this remarkable story, in his own words —

And may all who read this, hear within their own hearts, and understand, the significance of the story, so that they can understand the significance and beauty of their own lives —
