Hello
I would like to suggest a free mobile application "Astrodiary"

A very beautiful and extremely convenient astrological application.
It has such functionality: a database, a chronology of events, all the main predictive methods.
In addition, there is an advanced diary of dreams and notes

Android

IOS

How did the astrologers do their calculations, if they could not read, or more importantly, cipher and write? Didn't there have to be tables of stars, their risings. cycles of the planetary motions, eclipse cycles, etc? It's inconceivable that they memorized everything, even if they studied for years to do it.

clearly you dont know that some major inventions managed to survive the total destruction when even language was lost, circa 1100BC. what managed to get passed down was enough for very impressive hydromechanical timekeeping equipment. they were very accurate. the antikythera is the most famous thats is still being studied.

the ancients pre destruction were probably more advanced than us.

but it looks like any day we will also get destroyed by some major volcano or other, except with our reliance on electronics, nothing will survive at all.

i have solar fire 8 and dont see reason to upgrade. as it is I only crank up the laptop to do parans on it.

mostly i use my ipad …but time nomad offers interesting horary possibilities on iphone….and while I tried both iphemeris and astro gold and recently time nomad (graphics shocking but otherwise interesting)… i landed up just reverting to astro seek and astro.com.

by far, I prefer astro.com. easier to ‘see’ clearly. if I have to struggle to mentally get a picture in my head that I can focus on mentally, I spend far too much time getting distracted and cant focus intuitively.

I was questioning a comment made by another poster who claimed that there were no written records of any kind, or written procedures or data, and who claimed all astrological information was passed on orally in ancient SW Asia, which he said he had studied.
No doubt you are aware there are thousands of cuneiform tablets that have been recovered, some known to include astronomical/astrological information, only a tiny percentage of which have been translated, because so few scholars know the language.
And no, I didn't know language was lost c 1100 BC. I hope the Greeks and Egyptians were informed of that, especially the Greeks speaking what is now known as Linear B (which morphed smoothly into archaic Greek). They probably thought their nonsensical babbling was language.
Look how wrong one can be!

Well, I still have a book or two, and ephemerides.
I'd get a heck of a lot less done, but could still function by candlelight.
we might tick along for a decade or two but past 100 years nothing else will survive. everything we have today will be gone. it‘s happened before and will happen again. except our civilisation wont leave a trace. its the piscean age. it will dissolve.

The astrolabe, similar to the antikythera, was created during the sidereal Age of Pisces. So was modern technology. There's no reason for the Neptunian-ruled sidereal Age of Pisces to destroy electronic civilization. The tropical Age of Capricorn, which is occurring simultaneously on a different wavelength might though, since it's ruled by Saturn, which both creates and destroys.

We'll miss you, brother, and think of you often.
But we will be busy.

So in terms of recommendations, software and otherwise, one big recommendation is to get very clear on what we're looking at, be well grounded in the astronomy and geometry (and even, heaven help us, trigonometry) of what we're doing. Understand it; don't just accept what pushing a few buttons gives you and figuring George knows what he's doing.

Parallels of Declination :)

FREE Astrology Online Calculator

Declination aspects:

  • Parallel
    Parallels
  • Contra-Parallel
    Contra-Parallels
Parallels & Contra-Parallels are aspects, which refer to degrees of declination
above or below the celestial equator.
Parallel is similar to a conjunction, but usually provides benefits.
Contra-Parallel is said to be similar to the opposition, but weaker.

David there are many ways of destroying or decaying. oxygen erodes. plastic returns to oil, metals corrode. i have just ‘lost’ my 12 yr old brilliant nokia pureview camera because some transformer in its innards died. cant take that apart to fix it even if i knew how. none of our tech will last. we have no hydraulic time piece to keep us going like the ancient astrologers. we barely even know that astrology uses trigonometry for house systems, transits etc. we be truly f/d.

probably a very few will be more prepared

currently….day of jupiter in taurus hour of mars in scorpio…. opposition 2 to 8 where i am…. says my trusty widget…upstairs i hear a screaching teenager going off at her mother for last half hour. deeply distrubed endless screaching….. where would ai be without my online widgets! astrology has become life in motion.

nature decaying and rebirthing. nothing is destroyed, it just changes.

Maybe there could be mass manufacturing of astrolabes, which are essentially mechanical, astronomical, analog computers. They were used by astrologers during the Renaissance and are still in existence.

thank you for link David. i think i will get one! its affordable enough. i also know I want an antikythera though at a few hundred euros they are expensive. i dont think I will be here longer 15-20 yrs …could be way shorter with illnesses going crazy….but its just fund to have them.

Yes, I have but only use Version 8. Version 9 has some problems with the display of things and customer support wasn't able to fix it.
I'm sorry to hear that. I'm not a computer whiz. 7-8 worked fine on Windows 10 & 11 and Ver 9 works fine on Windows 11. I sure they probably told you to reset your graphic settings to their default in case you accidentally/intentionally changed them.

Language wasn't lost but culture was.

The destruction of Sumer circa 1900 BCE was the equivalent of the fall of the western Roman Empire. The world, at least that part of the world, was plunged into the Dark Ages.

With the destruction of the Hittite Kingdom around 1200 BCE that was it. They were humanity's last hope. Now we're plagued with stupidity because of the Greeks. Compared to the Sumerians, Akkadians, and Hittites the Greeks were idiots.

what managed to get passed down was enough for very impressive hydromechanical timekeeping equipment. they were very accurate. the antikythera is the most famous thats is still being studied.
That isn't Greek.

If you look at Ptolemy's map and the maps of others from that period the world ended at Ethiopia. There was nothing south of that but the Egyptians, Sumerians and Akkadians knew there was and sent their ships there.

Knowing your latitude is easy. If you're at the south pole Polaris never rises and you can't see it. If you're at the north pole Polaris never rises because it's visible 100% of the time. To know your latitude you just have to measure the angle of Polaris rising.

To know your longitude you have to know the time plus/minus 10 minutes or you'll end up 100s of miles off course and if you're sailing for a month maybe a 1,000 miles off course.

Here's something interesting:

Archaeologists have unearthed the oldest known wooden structure, and it’s almost half a million years old.

The simple structure — found along a riverbank in Zambia — is made up of two interlocking logs, with a notch deliberately crafted into the upper piece to allow them to fit together at right angles, according to a new study of cut marks made by stone tools.

Geoff Duller, a professor of geography and Earth sciences at the University of Aberystwyth in the United Kingdom, was part of the team that made the discovery in 2019. He said the structure, excavated upstream of Kalambo Falls near Zambia’s border with Tanzania, probably would have been part of a wooden platform used as a walkway, to keep food or firewood dry or perhaps as a base on which to build a dwelling. A digging stick and other wooden tools were found at the same site.

We know the Sumerians sailed to southern Africa. I'm not saying they built it, I'm just saying they already knew things were happening there.

Lunar returns aka revolutions :)

Returns on the same birth position

Lunar returns (Lunar revolutions) for a particular year
calculates the exact moments, when Luna returns on the same birth position.

A lot of software products currently available do Lunar returns. Many do them in either sidereal or tropical frames of reference.

I have the same problems with Version 9 on my new computer with Win 11. Not shure about the graphic settings. It doesn't matter. I use V8 and I am quite happy with that.
Jut wonder if they do bring a new version out in the future. I think the last one is from 2011.
