The central theme of Leo is integration, creativity and self-expression. More so than the Sun on its own, Leo represents drawing strength from within using the divine spark that makes us want to be alive, and to do what we truly want in a passionate, colorful, creative and expressive way.

The creativity of Leo is expressed outwardly and in all directions. It is the most genuine desire to express oneself. To let out what is at the core and the essence of your being, what is unique and specific to the individual. Being a fire sign, it is not really interested in the material or physical, but on the personally meaningful and spiritual.

With Leo and the Sun, one learns that when you embrace your true nature you evolve into a domain of life where you feel completely satisfied; where there is no insecurity nor doubt that could ever reach you, because you radiate your own uniqueness. You reach a state where there is synchronicity between mind, soul and body, where it is all working under one same beat and theme, leaving all doubts aside.

This connects you with your purpose and with God himself, and here you realize that you are completely worthy and the best version of yourself, where you feel a sacrosanct serenity, love and confidence that permeates through everything. You understand the divine fatherly love and the love that a father could have for his son or daughter: the unconditional appreciation and pride in someone because you love them and see the light in them. When you do what you love from the bottom of your heart you are one with your purpose and with God. Being different from Aries, Leo doesn’t place that much priority on doing what’s necessary or urgent, but on what one loves.

Having heart is the core of what Leo represents. It’s dropping pretenses and arrogance, and knowing that by expressing that which only you can express you will rightfully draw attention from others and deserve your own spotlight. To live by your own rules, to swear loyalty to your essence and your morals. Embracing what you love doing which creates a sense of great respect and dignity. The Leo native will always wear their heart on their sleeve, and will intuitively navigate through life finding purpose. The journey then, becomes an eternal search of self-discovery which may initially manifest itself as a initial insecurity and desperate need for recognition, or, the fixation on social appearances and ostentatious demeanors. The shadow of this sign is as great as its potential upsides; having the Sun in Leo, the ego takes a primary role in a natal chart and the direction of development will hinge on the self, validation and recognition, whether that’s for a healthy self-esteem or an ego so fragile that it could be diagnosed as an inferiority complex or narcissistic personality disorder.

Therefore Leo may indeed become unnecessarily ostentatious and try to stir drama into everyday situations as a move to fulfill insecurities, manipulating, lying and choosing to display whatever makes it look good in front of others, even over its true convictions and beliefs. It also suffers from having an excessively simplistic outlook on life, and the sign has no great intelligence either, which may create the frustrated artist unaware of its own abilities, quick to react to any criticism which will be overblown and taken very personally. The sign grows the most when it’s complemented with its opposite, Aquarius, which exemplifies intelligence, rationality, humility, vision, purity and aloofness. The traditional ruler of its opposite sign, Saturn, indicates that the areas of potential growth for Leo are discipline, discernment, objectivity, thoroughness and sobriety. Its simple minded views and lack of empathy also may create many problems in relationships, whether they are abusers or abused; they may use others as nothing more than mirrors that reflect their own beauty, as if they were the only human being alive in all of the history of existence, or, their lack of self- awareness and weakness for flattery may be used by more intelligent ones to their advantage. Their evident ego full of pretentiousness may also be quickly detected by others which could make them end up lonely and rejected, causing the complete opposite effect of their intentions.

While the sign isn’t by any means the antithesis of heroism, leadership, command and bravery (which do fit the sign to a considerable degree), the ultimate goal isn’t objectively taking a place of power or effectiveness in the world, it is simply expressing what is genuine from the heart; finding importance and brilliance in whatever is ours, and by secondary effect becoming a source of inspiration and receiving admiration from others, daring to authentically embrace one's personality, shining and excelling with talent in doing what one loves.

The Sun in the natal chart is the place where we are born as an unique instance of The Spirit, how our soul differs from the source that gave birth to us, and the way in which we redeem ourselves and give back to that source of life. Through Leo, the native seems to be naturally concerned, whether consciously or not, of this very fact. The soul seems immediately inclined to find its own light and creative force, with self-esteem being so important to the sign. The figure of the father becomes more important, and unless hindered by other aspects, the father usually is seen by the native as someone brilliant, talented and which draws everyone in, whatever the profession may actually be. This sense of nobility is what causes the native to usually want to play the role of the well-behaved son or daughter.

Wanting to be talented and special is what the sign is. Every protagonistic role has a leonine taint to it, because deliberate and passionate self-expression always draws others in. Hence the natural association of Leo with the 5th house of games, fun, talents and creativity. There is a keen ability in Leo to express things the right way, to tell things at the right moment, and tap into their feelings and draw energy and strength from these inspirations, taking a role of centrality wherever they go and others being able to recognize that purity, which is the main reason behind their charisma and good humor.

When Leo frames the quest of the self far from the superficial and the expectations of others and turns inwards, it becomes authentic and humble. The individual here realizes that the material, fleeting and superficial will never be enough, and it is only when we connect with our purpose and spiritual selves that we may achieve true satisfaction - because truly, in the realm of the spiritual there are no hierarchies nor corrupt metrics to which we abide; only the most meaningful, and a message which we feel the urge to express, a message that can’t be described with words alone, but that keeps us alive and passionate.

This is very accurate! My Mars helps my Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron to be more fun, more fiery, and more simple in the right ways, and also be child-like, too, and my Jupiter, Neptune and Chiron helps my Mars to aim for a goof cause, such as creating an utopian community in anarcho-communism, or else (I have Mars in Leo, Jup, Nep, Chiron all in Aquarius).

The image of the Lion aka LEO is masculine, diurnal
and indicates action, reputation, superiors.

Depending on the placement of the houseruler :)
those born under the influence of Leo are distinguished, imperious, beneficent

Domicile of Sun, it controls the circulatory system

Leo is definitely one of the strongest signs of the zodiac. I feel like they could beat a Scorpio if they learn to tame their impatience a bit.

Mmm, well in my opinion (and I may be biased by my Aquarius placements), regardless of astrological signs, individual strength and effectiveness depend on how one channels and implements energy in life. Astrological signs are abstract archetypes, and any perceived strength is influenced by an individual's psychological development. Rulership planets, like the Sun in Leo, may not always be beneficial, as they operate independently and may clash with other chart elements. Like Kevin Burk says in one of his books, planets in rulership work for their own sake, but (and I know I'm gonna get hate for this especially from traditionals) that's not necessarily beneficial or effective for the individual. The Sun is in domicile in Leo because it's the sign that temperamentally matches the Sun the most. But the strength of a sign depends on various factors including chart aspects and the native's willingness to work with their energies and actually on the condition of the planets in the chart. Ultimately, the Sun's symbolism remains consistent across all signs, emphasizing individuality, willpower, and self-esteem. Any person and any sign can be good or bad.

Funny you should mention Scorpio cause I was thinking of writing a description about it next. Scorpio may indeed get to extreme depths of transformation, signified of course by its rulers Pluto and Mars (Pluto especially representing the unconscious and what lies at the very bottom of our nature), but the Scorpio may be nothing more than the angry, insecure, resentful person mad at society for being superficial when in reality it's just jealous. Scorpio is just an abstract archetype that may be extrapolated at a million different levels, from the very basic levels of development to the most profound and advanced. The strength and value of a sign is just ultimately the way we choose to manifest these basic archetypes and is up to us.

I think of the signs as paths or scenarios which have advantages and pitfalls, that have a particular feel and temperament to them. Planets have signs in which the pitfalls and advantages match exactly the most classical and typical way we think of those planets. The Sun matches Leo and it will work for itself. The Sun putting its energies into motion for the sake of the nature of the Sun itself: uniqueness, feeling special, recognition, colorful expression, inspiration, but also arrogance, pride, caring what others think... etc. But whether the Sun in Leo is the protagonist admired by everyone or fragile narcissist depends on the person completely.

At least on natal astrology, I'd say. I would actually consider planets in rulership the best in horary astrology.
