I have always been fascinated by this phenomenon called 'The Club of 27', which comes from the fact that so many talented artists, and especially musicians, die at or around the age of 27 and often under mysterious circumstances. To name a few of the more famous ones: Robert Johnson, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones, Kurt Cobain.

It seems to me that this coincidence is closely related to the experience of the first (and only) sextile of transiting Neptune to its natal position, which occurs between the ages of 26 and 28. Many of the above's deaths are (thought to) be linked to traditional Neptune themes such as drug or alcohol (ab)use or drowning, and most of them are clouded in a fog of Neptunian mystery. Moreover, these five artists all have a strong Neptunian influences on their natal sun, either by aspect (Hendrix, Johnson, Joplin) or via a Pisces Sun (Cobain, Jones). It seems that the Neptunian waters finally drowned their individuality and eventually their life itself.

Although I think Liz Greene is right when she notes that the series of artist deaths in the late Sixties is also related to Neptune passing the last degrees of Scorpio (its sting), I feel the Neptune sextile in itself should not be overlooked. Finally, besides these tragic deaths, the Neptune sextile also coincides with the most appreciated music made by these and other artists. To put it strongly, it seems to be a blessing as well as a curse.

Anyone ever thought about this transit or related issues?

Not to mention the Saturn return that occurs at about that age, maybe a little later. It looks like 27-28 is a hard age that tests us.

Right, that's interesting, hadn't given the Saturn transit much thought myself. But I feel I may have represented the Neptune Sextile a bit too negatively: with many artists it also coincides with a period of tremendous creativity and the creation of works that are in tune with the sub-terrenean forces moving humanity. Indeed, for many it seems to be the absolute highpoint of their artistic career.

Neptune sextile is one of the best aspects and transits of Neptune. It takes a LOT more than a Neptune or any other aspect or transit to kill you off.
As stated above, these people died short of their Saturn return. I think this issue is the one to focus on.

Perhaps you're right. Then again, most of these deaths were related to drowning / drugs / alcohol, or other Neptunian themes. In other words, they seemed to be due to the person slipping away from material existence on earth, which I suggest more with the Neptunian wish for dissolution.
