Keeping it "political", the Pro-Conservation Party (Democrats) brought back the wolves to Yellowstone. Then the Anti-Conservation Party (Republicans) opened the way to hunting them to extinction again.
One of the last acts of the Trump administration, besides the totally unnecessary executions of 13 Federal prisoners (which had been on hold during the Obama administration), and fomenting the riot at the Capitol Building, was to turn the "protection" of wolves over to the States, with predictable results.
The Biden administration, which has done well regarding red wolves, has been slow to place grey wolves in National Parks back as a Federally protected species, but is very likely to do so before they become extinct again.
I'm not quite sure who is slower. President Biden or AG Merrick Garland. I think it's AG Garland. But from day to day it's a toss up too.
