Hi, I'm completely new to Reiki...so my knowledge levels are practically zero, so any and all experiences, thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

Is Reiki something you can begin yourself? Or are you better going straight to a course where someone is accredited at it and they can teach you?

Reiki is a healing modality that needs to be "activated" within you before you can access it.

There are other energy healing methods that people can access without this activation (I know that some people can draw their energy up into a ball between their hands and then send that energy to others) but for Reiki it has to be passed along by activation.

Each level requires a different activation. I took a two-day Usui Holy Fire Reiki class level 1 & 2 over a weekend and was activated to level one on the first day and level 2 the second day.

For Usui Holy Fire Reiki there are five levels total. I can't remember the name of level three (ART?) but level four is Master level and five is Karuna level.

The thing that is amazing about Reiki is that once you receive your level one activation all that is required to "turn it on" and have it flow through your hands is to mentally intend for it to flow. The way I was taught was just to think/say, "Reiki On!" and I can feel it flowing from the palms of my hands.

It seems crazy, it seems like airy-fairy nonsense, UNTIL you get the attunement and can feel energy flowing from your palms when you turn Reiki on (and the people you use it on can feel it and LOVE IT!)

Ah, brilliant. I wasn't sure how it worked. Yeah the 'activation' process could easily seem a bit 'convenient' to any negative eye but I've seen the power of reiki in person and have seen it have a genuine effect t. It wasn't on me but was during a healing session after the main service at the local spiritual church I attend.

Definetely interested in the different levels and starting them. I've seen one locally that has six levels...

Exactly. It seems like a sham that you can't just pick up a book and learn it yourself, that you have to actually find someone who has achieved a high enough level that can then activate others (for Usui Holy Fire this is Master Level), but it is the real deal!

I would recommend looking for a class in your area through: http://www.reiki.org/ (or someone has been trained by them). There are lots of different "types" of Reiki, but beware of any of the...less than honorable providers who don't have certificate you can attribute as the real deal.

Good luck and have fun!

Thank you, found one that does a lovely retreat in a tiny isle (island). It's on after the new year. That's my New Years revolution sorted!
