I'm wondering if someone can help me to clarify Saturn's role in each of the signs. I get that Saturn represents what it is that we take seriously, and where we are tested. I have also found that sometimes Saturn can show where we have resistance. For example, I have Saturn in Aquarius and I absolutely abhor groups. I really prefer to do things solo. My girlfriend has Saturn in Gemini, and she has a 'thing' about communications. She hates the telephone, and does what she can to be 'off the grid' so to speak. So, if someone had Saturn in Leo, I would think that they would not like to be in the spotlight, or that they would shun it. Nope. All the textbooks, and Liz Greene, say that Saturn in Leo craves recognition and needs applause. Also needs to be in control.

I find this confusing. Does Saturn represent what we crave, or what we reject, or what????? :sideways:

thanks
Barb

Well, wouldn't you say that what you crave is what is hard for you to achieve? Saturn, as I understand it is the achiever, the hard worker, but he is also slow, never spontaneous and quite conservative.

When you crave something you long for something that doesn't come easy for you. It becomes a distant goal and you will work hard to get there. Maybe you never will, just because you crave it so much and become to rigid and square about it, just like Saturn.

I think that where Saturn is placed is where you will experience a lacking... which causes craving for what is lacked, what we don't have enough of, which brings us to work hard (in order to get what we lack) or causes aversion and rejection (because it's so much hard (hard) work to get what we lack, so let's pretend we didn't want it in the first place).

I have Saturn in Virgo in the 11th place. I have at times rejected a need for society with others in my life altogether, and at times I've worked very hard to get better at being a social creature. I work very hard at my associations with people but still often experience a dearth of good relationships.

My Virgo traits (also have the Sun and Moon there) are really inhibited by Saturn in ways. An example is that I am a frustrated neat freak (I'm chronically disorganised) but I've pretty much decided it's too much work trying to be that kind of Virgo

sign of Saturn is how you defend yourself, to Barb

Barb,

An interesting interpretation of Saturn I've heard is that the sign Saturn is in indicates how you defend your self. Saturn in Aquarius defends themselves with individualism, Saturn in Gemini defends themselves with talking, etc. This suggests that your individualistic nature and your girlfriends issue with phones are defensive positions.

Guessing,

Tim

Interesting.

my older sister has saturn sun conj. in leo.
she constantly flirts, acts helpless, controls every situation she is part of and seldom does she give earnest praise or compliments to others.
I think this placement forces limits and control over others and demands all focus on self, likely because sun is shrunken by saturn. leo clings to adoration, saturn says i'm gonna make it hard for you to get, so you have to work 10x harder to get it.
Saturn can be ruthless to achieve a goal. In this case, it's a take no prisoners attitude when it comes to sharing the limelight.

Barbh,

Something that is extremely helpful is to look at the archetype behind the planet. Saturn is representative of Kronos who was born from Gaia (Earth = structure) and Uranus (sky = the limit). He was jealous of his father's power (something he was LACKING as he saw it). Kronos found out that HIS son would overthrow him so took precautions (defense) and tried to eat all of his children. Zeus (Jupiter) eventually overthrew him.

Kronos is linked to time and is often referred to as father time.

So, while this is very brief, it's easy to see that Saturn can represent all of these things at once.

"Saturn’s" influence seems to be more obvious in the houses than in the signs ‑ can rule the life with an iron rod, although invisible, by undermining the sense of self‑worth and making it difficult for the individual to permit any close emotional contacts.

Saturn's sign indicates what you find uncomfortable and must learn to manage.

Where and how you feel a lack of confidence -- the house position of Saturn defines where you need to establish your skills, an issue you worry about and wish you could depend on !

Takes 28 years to go around zodiac. Stays in each sign of approx 2.1/2 yrs
Keywords: Saturn = Structure, duty, limitation, restriction.

I read something funny about saturn in Leo once (which I have, btw)...an old man with gold fillings in his teeth and a flamboyant dress sense who is funny but also cringe-worthy. I know it is said that is can make you go over the top in your personal style so you become clownish. I do actually love to wear unusual things and look a bit strange, I'm not really worried about fitting in in that sense. Maybe the heart of it is that you do have the Leo flamboyance, but it sits a bit strangely on you? In my opinion, not a bad thing really, the world could use more old men with gold fillings! Obviously, this is a really superficial take, but I thought that image was actually pretty illuminating.

Don't we all want to embody Saturn in Leo long enough to rid ourselves of the undue pressure to always want to be right? Wow. What redeemable events are confronted throughout one's life when Saturn moves through Leo. And, those who are fortunate to experience it from the "get go' have real contributions to make by engaging in daily upheavals of binary personality...MODE of Cosmic Therapy
