The Romans had March as first month, this can be seen from the names of September, October, November and December - 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th.

Obviously Cleopatra may have made conditions for the new calendar and as she was a Greek Pharaoh, may have slipped in Sirius ancient Greek style!

I thought as it is New Years Day, it would be interesting to go back to 1st January 0045 BC and the start of the Julian Calendar, that with some adjustments is the Gregorian Calendar we follow today.

When the Julian Calendar started, it wasn't exactly accurate, however over two thousand years ago, it was a stunning achievement, it was out of synch of an exact year by 11 minutes and 12 seconds! I think that Sosigenes must have known about this, perhaps Caesar and Cleopatra thought that this could be left to future generations to correct as Hipparchas had calcalated that adding a leap day every four years to a calendar of 365 days would create a small error a hundred years before!
Cleopatra was a Greek Pharaoh from the Ptolemaic Dynasty as shown below:-

The Egyptians and Romans used sunrise as the start of the day in ancient times, the Greeks used the sunset previous as the start of the day.....so you may wonder if Cleopatra sneaked an alignment to Sirius into the start of the Julian Calendar?
I checked in Rome but found nothing, but i am not surprised, the senate hated Cleopatra and thought Sirius was the gate keeper to hell, the alignment had to be hidden.
Caesar and Cleopatra had their love affair traveling up the Nile, so could an Egyptian inspired alignment of Sirius be along there, perhaps Memphis, Alexandria or Thebes, now called LUXOR?
Ancient Greek day start for 1st January 0045 BC would be sunset on 31 December 0046 BC.

I did find an alignment in the ancient Capital Thebes now known as Luxor, as the Sun set, Sirius was rising, perhaps Cleopatra had the last word in secret Egyptian magic! Astronomy graph below:-

It is true that ancient people probably used upright logs on the horizon to mark the drift of the Sun, and it appears that the Sun does not move for several days around 21st December before moving on again, as in Maeshowe below:-

In the centuries before the Julian Calendar when Rome was a democracy Roman Consuls changed office of parts regarding the empire that they ruled on !st January, which is why it was used in the Julian Calendar.

Originally the Winter Solstice would have fallen on 25th December, but when the error was taken out by the Gregorian Calendar, they only rectified up to the first Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, when they first saw there was an error of 3 leap days every 4 hundred years.

Thank you for explaining it way better than I.

This is very cool, even with my first coffee.

I can see why people would have liked to have seen 0 degrees Aries as the start, but I believe it is actually tied to Light. When light started to prepare for the new year.

Notice, that your link uses December 20:wink:

Hi Opal,

In 1582 ten days were taken out of the Julian Calendar, and 3 leap days were dropped every 4 hundred years, this effected New Year 1583 in Rome and then onwards.....Sirius was culminating by projected measure on M.C.....very sneaky!

Monk, The report is very interesting. I have printed it, I will now read it and make notes, and get back when I am done.

Do you find it to be accurate with yours?

It is amazing, the 2 givers of light, or brightest objects, being given hierarchy by ancients, of whom we accredit, a lack of intelligence.

What if Saturn's been protecting us from what's out there, and now we're ready for the cosmos? Time to leave the nest, on the mental plane.

Petosiris,

Tell us of the Bible story, that explains what happens when we reach beyond where we should. I believe you know this one.

Page 110 of the book, not the link. Volume I

Chapters entitled, Le Clef and Le clef Hermetique or translated
The Key :joyful:

in the chapters there is more mentions, I have a chart for the 21, at the moment of solstice, I do not know why he uses the 22 either. Three days of equal light, 22 is the middle day.

Bumping this for you to see Monk.

There's that numerological connection between Capricorn as the 10th Sign in "December" (10th Month) and Aries as the 1st Sign in the Roman month named for its Domicle-ruler, Mars:

1+0=1. Ten converts to one.

Word for today is Epiphany, but by Jewish day start being 5th January at Sunset the same as Maeshowe.

The Year doesn't matter for the alignment happens every year during the time period

Some Christians think Christ was born on the 6th January corresponding to Epiphany, As Sun set, Sirius was rising, i could have followed that alignment from Persia.

 Interesting, again very interesting, but, that is not what I was referring to, when we reached for the heavens, we built a building to get there.
