Russia's indiscriminate bombing does not distinguish between ethnic Russians and ethnic Ukrainians. In many locations, Russian- and Ukrainian-speakers live in the same communities and may be inter-married or related by family ties. Russia continues to bomb Kharkiv, a majority Russian-speaking city in Ukraine
Putin counted on ethnic Russians who are Ukrainian citizens supporting and furthering his his invasion; but with a few exceptions, that hasn't happened.
Of course, the big irony is that Volodymyr Zelenskyy grew up in a Russian-speaking family.

Keep in mind that China stands with Putin, but democratic governments who refuse to participate in sanctions for economic reasons (under the guise of neutrality) have significant oppositions to their governments who condemn Putin's atrocities in Ukraine.
It would be nice if you stood with Ukraine's 7+ million refugees, or the 10s of thousands Ukrainians and Russian troops who have died in this war to date.
